The fine folks at TwistedSifter recently put together a list of maps that I had to share, titled “40 Maps That Will Help You Make Sense of the World.“These particular maps function more like infographics, displaying data and information in a visually easy to understand way.

Some of them are eye-opening, like this map of countries who offer mothers paid maternal leave:

Some are just beautiful, like this depiction of rivers in the USA:

And some are just downright hilarious, like this map of Ludacris’ “friends” by zip code:

All of them, though, offer some food for thought in map format, and would be a good way to talk with students about how maps can serve multiple purposes other than simply giving someone directions.
