CAMROSE, Alta. \u2014 Team Niklas Edin from Sweden and Calgary\u2019s Team Brendan Bottcher brought their \u201cA\u201d games to the Co-op Canadian Open.<\/p>\n

Both clubs were the first in the men\u2019s division to qualify for the playoffs, undefeated at 3-0 through the A-side of the triple knockout preliminary round.<\/p>\n

Edin earned a 6-3 victory over Team Brad Gushue of St. John\u2019s, N.L., and Bottcher beat Team Korey Dropkin from the United States 4-2 during Draw 12 action Thursday night.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first event since late October for Edin, who underwent surgery after sustaining a knee injury while warming up for the HearingLife Tour Challenge semifinals.<\/p>\n

The reigning world and Olympic champion has returned to form and shot a practically perfect 98 per cent against Gushue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been pretty bored, not going to lie, to not be able to play in the middle of the season,\u201d Edin said earlier in the week. \u201cI\u2019ve done a lot of surgeries and stuff before but it\u2019s always been planned in May, so you can recover during the summer and plan for a comeback.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis time I\u2019ve just been waiting and hoping for it to heal fast enough. I\u2019m glad it has though, it could have been worse, so I\u2019m super happy to be back and playing already.\u201d<\/p>\n
