Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has showered praises on Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey for scoring in their 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old put up an impressive display to help his side knock out the Premier League leaders at the Emirates stadium.
Albion came from a goal down to win thanks to first goals of the season by Danny Welbeck and Lamptey either side of a fine finish by Kaoru Mitoma.
“I hope this win gives us confidence. Our young players – Colwill, Lamptey, Enciso, Sarmiento, Mitoma – are really good players and I hope they believe in themselves and their quality. They have an ability to play at a high level,” De Zerbi told the club’s website.
“I want them to play every game with personality and confidence. I wanted the players to play with more energy and courage in the second half.
“We are Brighton and we have to play every game with the same mentality, with respect for our club and our fans. I think we did that and it is nice to go through in this competition, it is important for us.”
Lamptey has made 12 appearances and scored one in all competitions for Brighton.
He is expected to be named in the final squad of Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
